South Essex Young Riders / Drivers Event

South Essex College held it’s first Young Riders / Drivers Day this year on all their Campus’s. Basildon Campus saw new students who intend to travel to college by car or motorcycle to the event organised by ECC Road Safety Officer Gillian Beale in partnership with the College Head of Student Services, Essex Police, ECFRS, Castle Point and Rochford Motorcycle Group.

Up to 200 students attended the event and received a presentation to highlight the risks and consequences of driving a car or riding a motorcycle. The Riders were offered a practical experience in a controlled area of the car park to young riders who have recently passed their CBT training and those students thinking of riding in the future.

The skills area run by the Castle Point and Rochford Motorcycle Group offered a Highway Code quiz and the practical manoeuvres around a coned off course at slow speed. Students who had passed their CBT Basic training were also offered an observed ride out with Essex Police motorcyclists who gave a constructive critique of their riding ability.

Potential Young Drivers were given a hard-hitting presentation and invited to have experience the Police Interceptors Subaru simulator which was a definite attraction.

Riders were offered a chance to win a FREE place on the New Post CBT Training course subsidised by Essex County Council at £20 for 3 hours rider tuition. This will be run by local motorcycle providers.
