Road Safety Week

ROCHFORD/MALDON AREA

Road Safety Week launched on Monday 22nd November with the Road Safety Team, the local Fire Brigade, Police Officers and Community Safety from Maldon District Council all interacting with members of the public and raising awareness outside Tesco, in Maldon, which aimed to educate and raise awareness of residents surrounding issues and potential dangers on the road.

The activities continued throughout the week with...

  • Operation Calypso on Monday, taking place at Bates Road in Heybridge - Essex Police working with Trading Standards, HM Revenue and Customs and various traffic units to target non-seatbelt wearing, hand held mobile use and other traffic offences.
  • Police officers and Road Safety working with Year six school children in Cold Norton, Latchingdon and Mayland on Wednesday to educate drivers in the dangers of speeding.
  • The Road Safety Team were present at the Rayleigh Town Centre Christmas Lights Switch on alongside Police Officers, Town Councillors and two Fire Engines and full crew - all promoting the "Be Seen, Be Safe" message, handling out leaflets and reflective strips whilst enjoying the festivities in the high street.
  • Members of Neighbourhood Watch who turned out in freezing conditions on Friday and assisted police with speed checks on the road in Great Totham and Burnham. 
  • Finishing with partnership working between Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the Road Safety Team at Essex County Council, Maldon’s Special Constabulary, who ran an operation targeting young drivers on Friday night.
