Epping Forest - news (updated 24 June 2010)

Education & Enforcement Day

Dozens of drivers were given fixed penalty notices for motoring offences during a police road safety crackdown requested by residents in Nazeing.

Worried members of the area's neighbourhood action panel (NAP) raised concerns about the number of drivers speeding, not wearing seat belts or using mobile phones while at the wheel. As a result, Essex road policing officers supported by Trading Standards and Essex road safety officers were busy in the village on Monday June 21.

A total of 18 fixed penalty notices were issued during a speed check on the 30mph limited North Street, with 42mph being the highest speed recorded. Officers also issued 45 FPNs to drivers not wearing seat belts and six to drivers using mobile phones. One car was seized for no insurance.

County road safety officers showed educational videos to offending drivers and explained the dangers of speeding, not wearing seat belts and being distracted by mobile phones. Trading Standards officials questioned 16 drivers about a range of business issues.
