The Speed Awareness Scheme

 

 

Essex Police is committed to road safety and is actively seeking to educate and not prosecute drivers who have exceeded specific speed limits through errors of judgement.

The Speed Awareness Scheme has been introduced to give eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a course as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty system of a £60 fine and 3 penalty points to be endorsed on their licence. In some situations it could prevent a summons to attend court being issued.
 
The courses are only available by referral from the police. Voluntary attendance at any of the other courses in the country will not have any bearing on any pending prosecution in respect of reducing penalty points or sentence.
 

Essex Police, and Essex County Council as course providers, are now members of The National Speed Awareness Scheme. Drivers who are offered the course by Essex Police will have the opportunity to attend a course in Essex or any other County participating in the National Scheme. We are now able to offer courses to drivers who have been offered a National Speed Awareness Course by another Police Force provided that Police Force is also in the National Scheme.
