Essex Police is committed to road safety and is actively seeking to educate and not prosecute drivers who have exceeded specific speed limits through errors of judgement.

The Speed Awareness Scheme has been introduced to give eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a course as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty system of a £100 fine and 3 penalty points to be endorsed on their licence. In some situations it could prevent a summons to attend court being issued.

The courses are only available by referral from the police. Voluntary attendance at any of the other courses in the country will not have any bearing on any pending prosecution in respect of reducing penalty points or sentence.

TO BOOK A COURSE YOU MUST BE IN POSSESSION OF A DRIVING LICENCE. IF THIS IS A PHOTO CARD LICENCE THE PHOTO MUST BE IN DATE. IF IN DOUBT CHECK DATE AT 4b ON THE FRONT OF THE CARD.
