Speed Awareness Course

Essex Police is committed to road safety and is actively seeking to educate and not prosecute drivers who have exceeded a specific speed limit through a minor error of judgement.

The Speed Awareness Scheme has been introduced to give eligible offenders the opportunity to attend a course as an alternative to the Fixed Penalty system of a £60 fine and 3 penalty points to be endorsed on their licence.

The courses are only available by referral from the police. Voluntary attendance at any of the other courses in the country will not have any bearing on any pending prosecution in respect of reducing penalty or sentence.

Essex Police, and Essex County Council as course providers, are not members of The National Speed Awareness Scheme. Drivers who are offered the course by Essex Police will have to attend a course in Essex. We are not able to refer to or accept referrals from other areas.
