Winter Driving
Drivers often have to contend with ice, fog, snow, sleet, salt spray and low sun all in a single journey.

- Staying safe on the roads in winter is a matter of good preparation, good vehicle maintenance, the right knowledge and the right attitude.
- Prepare your vehicle for winter, check that your lights are clean and working, that your screenwash bottle is topped up and that your battery is fully charged.
- Keep up-to-date on the weather conditions by tuning into your local/national weather broadcasts and to travel information bulletins on the radio.
- Reschedule any appointments or meetings if the weather conditions are bad.
- Always fully clear your windscreen and side windows of ice and condensation before driving off.
- Keep your vehicle well ventilated. The car heater full on can quickly make you drowsy.
- Always reduce your speed on slippery surfaces, avoid harsh acceleration and braking.
- Increase the gap between you and the vehicle in front, allow up to TEN times the normal distance for braking.
- Allow plenty of extra time for your journey.
KEEP YOUR SPEED DOWN AND GIVE YOURSELF TIME!
