Be Seen Be Safe Campaign

As the leaves start to fall and the days begin to shorten it's important for us all to take more care on the roads as it gets darker earlier. This is why the Essex Casualty Reduction Board (ECRB) is launching a new road safety campaign to raise awareness of the importance of staying visible while using the roads.
"All pedestrians and motorcyclists alike need to be aware of the dangers of not being seen when on the road, especially at twilight, after dark or in bad weather."
County Councillor Norman Hume, Chairman of the Essex Casualty Reduction Board

As British Summer Time ends on Sunday 25 October, when the nights get even darker, it’s important that all Essex residents take on board the ‘Be Seen, Be Safe’ message.

The campaign, 'Be Seen, Be Safe', includes radio advertising which begins this week and will be followed by an educational road show which will be touring the county on the following dates:

26 October in Colchester High Street (outside the Town Hall)
27 October in Braintree Freeport (main car park)
28 October in Basildon Town Centre (opposite Primark)
29 October in Epping High Street
30 October in Harlow Town Centre (outside Boots)

During these events Essex County Council’s Road Safety Officers (RSOs) will be on hand to offer practical advice on how to ‘Be Safe’ and stay visible as well as provide high visibility straps for motorcyclists and bag and clothing straps for other road users.

County Councillor Norman Hume, Chairman of the Essex Casualty Reduction Board and Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation said: “All pedestrians and motorcyclists alike need to be aware of the dangers of not being seen when on the road, especially at twilight, after dark or in bad weather."

“I’d encourage all residents to take the opportunity to visit the road shows, especially young people as the road show is during half term, to find out how they can stay safe this winter.”
