Here are some facts motorcyclists should know:

Motorcycles account for less than 1% of road traffic, but 14% of death and serious injuries (DETR, 2000).

Motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than a car driver.

16.5% of crashes involved a motorcycle performing an overtaking manoeuvre (DfT, 2004).

11% of motorcycle crashes are rear-end shunts. This group contains a disproportionately high level of mopeds and scooters.
