How are we doing?
The government has set all local authorities targets to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured (KSI) on roads.
In Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock the objective is to reduce the number of casualties in 2008 to fewer than the following:
Essex 799 KSIs
Southend-on-Sea 69 KSIs
Thurrock 88 KSIs
The Essex Casualty Reduction Board (ECRB), in partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Thurrock Council, is working hard to reduce casualties and achieve these targets.
In 2007 there were 884 KSIs on roads in Essex. A huge reduction - and step change in road safety in Essex - is required if we are to achieve our target of fewer than 799 KSIs in 2008. Significant work is ongoing by the Casualty Reduction Board to get us back on track.
