ECRB - Partners and purpose
Our target
The Essex Casualty Reduction Board (ECRB) comprises Essex County Council, Essex Police, the Highways Agency, Essex County Fire & Rescue Service and East of England Ambulance Service.

The government has set all local authorities targets to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on roads.
That target is to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on roads in Essex:
FROM 1075 IN 2005
TO 842 IN 2007
Target groups
Research conducted in Essex during 2005 confirmed that the following four issues/road user groups are key to reducing casualties:-
Motorcycling and motorcyclists
Speeding
Drinking and driving
Young drivers and their passengers
Much of ECRB's focus will be on highlighting the particular dangers posed by these issues, and faced by these road users, in a bid to bring about changes in attitude and behaviour.
The business case
The average cost of a crash in which someone is killed or seriously injured (KSI) is £311,916.
Based on 2004 crash/casualty data, the annual cost of KSI incidents is Essex is £355 million.
If the target is met for 2007, this will result in a saving from the 2004 baseline figure of £72.67 million.
