Community Wheels

In 2007, over 1000 people were killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions in Essex, Southend on Sea and Thurrock. Although this is a reduction on last year's figures there is still more work to be done.

The Community Wheels project will stand as an example of combining the range of technical skills, expertise and resources held by partners' in the Essex Casualty Reduction Board, to encourage safer road use by all.

"Community Wheels" is a purpose-built, multi-media resource, education and demonstration vehicle. It is staffed by a core of full-time experienced multi-agency teams of Fire & Rescue, Police and Road Safety specialists, as well as volunteers recruited from selected local communities.

The vehicle will enable the delivery of road safety activity per year to improve the knowledge and understanding of road safety issues within the community. It will target communities that correspond with high incidents of KSI's, as well as targeting road user groups that are more at risk of being involved in accidents.

For more information on where you can see the vehicle visit the calendar, or to request the vehicle attends an event in your area, please complete the booking form.
